Hi everyone,

Sapphirefoxx miss stewart.

I have an Early 2009 Mac Pro which when it starts up performs very well even with its age.

El Capitan Mac Os Dmg

The problem i have lately is that my Mac Pro can only start up on alternate days. How to play h264 on mac.

On the days that it starts up normally ( a light press of the power button), i can shut down, restart and power back on with no problems for that day.

But the next day, when i try to power the Mac Pro, there is no response (no lights, no sound, no fan) - its like no power is going into the Mac Pro.

I have already tried the following(several times):

(1) Reset SMC - didnt work

(2) Reset PRAM - didnt work

(3) Using CleanMyMac 3 to verify start up disk - after running verification, the prompt is the disk is in good shape.

The only thing that is working so far is to run this special power cycle (i found this method online but the problem is that this solution only seems to work after leaving my Mac Pro overnight after running this power cycle and then the same problem resurfaces a day later):

(1) Unplug power cable Mac ox s update.

(2) Hold power button for 10 seconds and while holding the power button down, insert the Mac Pro power cable and hold power button for another 10 sec.

(3) Here, the instructions for this method requires me to 'release power button after those 10 sec and make a normal press as if it would normally turn on your computer' and this is suppose to work to power up the Mac Pro BUT what happens to my Mac Pro after i have held the power button for those 10 sec is a red light appears in my Mac Pro but no other sound, light nor any actual start up (or sign of life) of my Mac Pro comes on and no matter what else i try. If i just leave the Mac Pro powered on, the red light in the Mac Pro simply remains. So what i do now is once the red light comes on, i release the power button and then unplug the Mac Pro from the power cable and then the red light disappears. But after doing this power cycle, my Mac Pro will not be able to start up until i leave it alone overnight and then the next day when i try to power up, it would power on normally.

This had been going on for 2 weeks while i try all the suggestions and solutions online and I am becoming increasingly desperate. So i ordered a new power cable for my Mac Pro on eBay (it has yet to arrive and it wasn't easy to find!) in the hope that maybe it is the power cable that is wonky but my suspicion given how consistent this alternate power up schedule has been is that it is either some form of software or hardware problem.

Does anyone have any idea what the problem might actually be?

Or any other fixes i could try?

I would bring it down to apple to fix but its the Mac Pro - its so big and heavy.

so i'm still hoping its some form of a software glitch or startup disk / login issue.

Would appreciate any help i could get.

Thanks in advance !
